Adrian Griffin – Biography

Adrian Darnell Griffin is a professional basketball coach and former player from the United States. He was born on July 4, 1974, and most recently served as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, who compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He was a shooting guard and a small forward in the National Basketball Association from 1999 to 2008. Griffin spent his childhood in Wichita, Kansas, and went on to play basketball for the Seton Hall Pirates throughout his undergraduate years.

Adrian Griffin Professional Career

  • During the 1996 NBA draft, Griffin was not selected by any team. His first three years of professional baseball were spent in the American lower levels and in Italy, where he played with Cordivari Roseto from July to October of 1998. During that time, he played eight games.
  • While Griffin was playing for the Connecticut Pride of the Continental Basketball Association in 1997, he was honored with a spot on the All-Rookie First Team.
  • To begin his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Griffin played with the Boston Celtics during the 1999–2000 Basketball season. As a first-year player, he averaged seven points, five and a half rebounds, and one and a half steals per game.                                                                                                                           
  • In an 11-player transaction that included players from the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the SuperSonics, Griffin was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics on February 21, 2008. The agreement includes players from all three teams.
  • On August 13, 2008, Griffin was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team, six-player deal that involved the Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
  • Additionally, Mo Williams of Milwaukee was sent to Cleveland, Joe Smith of Cleveland and Desmond Mason of Milwaukee were sent to Oklahoma City, and Damon Jones of Cleveland and Luke Ridnour of Oklahoma City were sent to Milwaukee.

Coaching Career

  • Almost immediately after the conclusion of his playing career, he was hired by the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Scott Skiles, to work as an assistant. He would remain in this position for the subsequent two seasons.
  • Under the direction of Tom Thibodeau, he was hired as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls on September 8, 2010, and he remained in that role for a period of five years.
  • In addition to working in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Griffin accepted an offer to serve with the coaching staff of the United States of America, which was essential in the team’s victory at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
  • This team included a number of National Basketball Association superstars, including as Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Stephen Curry.
  • On the 26th of June in 2015, the Orlando Magic made the decision to hire him to serve as their top assistant coach.
  • In the first week of July in 2016, the Oklahoma City Thunder made the decision to hire Griffin as an assistant coach.
  • Griffin was hired by the Toronto Raptors on July 25, 2018, to serve as an assistant coach for the sports team.
  • Griffin was a significant contributor to the Toronto Raptors’ drive to the 2019 NBA championship, which culminated in the team’s victory over the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals. This victory culminated in Griffin receiving his first championship ring.
  • The Milwaukee Bucks announced on June 5, 2023 that they had hired Griffin as their head coach. Griffin was let go by the Milwaukee Bucks on January 23, 2024, despite the fact that his club was 30–13 and in second place in the eastern conference at the time.
