Aisling Bea – Aisling Clodhnadh O’Sullivan, better known by her stage name Aisling Bea and having been born on March 16, 1984, is a comedienne, actor, and writer from Ireland. She not only acted in the comedy series This Way Up on Channel 4, but she also conceived and scripted the show.

She is only the second woman in the history of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s “So You Think You’re Funny?” award, which has been given out for the past twenty-five years. She won the award in 2012 for her stand-up comedy performance at the festival. In addition to that, she is a frequent guest on a variety of light entertainment and comic panel shows, including QI and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Aisling Bea Family, Relationship and Afair

Bea was born in the Irish county of Kildare. Bea was only three years old when her father, a horse veterinarian named Brian, took his own life; she did not learn the circumstances surrounding his death until she was 13 years old.

As a way of paying homage to her father, she used the stage name “Bea,” which is derived from a shortened version of her father’s first name. Bea and her younger sister, Sinéad, had their upbringing overseen by their mother, Helen (née Moloney), who worked as an educator in secondary schools.

Aisling Bea Career

  • Bea tried for a period of two years after she graduated from her theater school to get work as a dramatic performer in the theatre. Instead, she was cast in a variety of comic television shows such as Cardinal Burns and Dead Boss, both of which aired in the year 2012. While filming Dead Boss in 2011, Bea decided to try stand-up comedy.
  • At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012, she was deemed the funniest performer and was awarded the Gilded Balloon for So You Think You’re Funny. Additionally, in 2013, with her show C’est La Bea, she was considered for the award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.                   
  • Bea’s career reached a “turning point” as a result of the publicity brought about by these accolades and festival appearances, and she began to appear as a regular guest on panel shows such as QI and Insert Name Here.
  • Bea and Yasmine Akram collaborated on the writing and hosting of the comic folklore series Micks and Legends (2015), which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and was nominated for a Chortle Award in 2013.
  • Bea was awarded the British Comedy Award for Best Female TV Comic in 2014, and she later performed her live show, Plan Bea, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015. In 2016, she became a team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats and was a cast member on Taskmaster in 2017.
  • Bea has maintained her acting career by appearing in television comedies such as Trollied (2014–2015), The Delivery Man (2015), and Finding Joy (2018), which is an Irish television comedy created by Amy Huberman. In addition, she has acted in the dramas about a criminal investigation titled “The Fall” (2016) and “Hard Sun” (2018).
  • In 2018, she and Sara Pascoe started working together as co-hosts of the comic talk program What’s Normal? on BBC Radio 2. She performed a stand-up special that was broadcast on Netflix in the latter part of 2018 and lasted for fifteen minutes.
  • She is the lead of the comedy-drama series Living with Yourself (2019) on Netflix, and she is also the head writer for the comedy series This Way Up (2019–present) on Channel 4. In addition, she made an appearance in the drama series Quiz (2020) on ITV.
  • Bea was awarded the BAFTA 2020 British Academy Television Craft Award for Breakthrough Talent in recognition of her contribution on the show This Way Up. She made an appearance in the Doctor Who New Year’s Special “Eve of the Daleks” in 2022, playing the role of Sarah.
