Alex Scott – Alexandra Virina Scott MBE is a sports presenter, pundit, and former professional footballer from England. She was born on October 14, 1984, and she played right back for Arsenal in the FA Women’s Super League for the most of her career. She participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics as a member of the Great Britain national team and made a total of 140 appearances for the England national team.

At the club level, Scott has played for Arsenal on three distinct occasions. It was during the 2004–2005 season that she spent a season with Birmingham City. Additionally, she played for the Boston Breakers for three years in the American Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). The UEFA Women’s Cup Final in 2007 was won by Arsenal thanks to her goal, which was the game-winning goal.

Alex Scott Club Career

  • In 1992, when Scott was only eight years old, he signed a contract with Arsenal. After initially being a striker or right winger when she made her debut with the first team, she was eventually moved to the position of full-back.
  • After spending the 2004–2005 season with Arsenal, Scott made the switch to Birmingham City. She remained with Arsenal until that point. According to the results of the FA Women’s Premier League National Division, the club finished in fourth place after the addition of Scott.
  • In her return to Arsenal, Scott was instrumental in the club’s success in achieving a domestic double by winning both the FA Women’s Premier League and the FA Women’s Cup.                                                                                                             
  • Additionally, she played a significant role in Arsenal’s historic “Quadruple” season, during which the team triumphed in all of their trophy contests, including the UEFA Women’s Cup in the 2006–2007 school year.
  • It was reported on September 25, 2008, that her playing rights for the Women’s Professional Soccer league had been awarded to the Chicago Red Stars, whose head coach was Emma Hayes, who had previously worked as an assistant coach for Arsenal.
  • This was in response to the establishment of a new women’s level of competition in the United States.
  • Following the collapse of the WPS prior to the start of the 2012 season, Scott continued his tenure at Arsenal for a third time. Kelly Smith, a fellow Boston player, joined her at that moment.
  • A captaincy position was bestowed upon Scott for the 2014–15 season. It is not known whether she participated in the Continental Cup final in 2015, which Arsenal Ladies won by defeating Notts County to win the cup.

International Career

  • Scott was a member of the England national team at both the U19 and U21 levels, including the 2002 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship, which was held in Canada.
  • The 18th of September, 2004, was the day that Scott made her complete debut against the Netherlands. She participated in the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2017; she also played in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2007, 2011, and 2015.                                                                                                 
  • She also played in the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2017. She was awarded the silver medal at the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2009 and the bronze medal in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.
  • During the match between Germany and England that took place at Wembley Stadium in November 2014, Scott accomplished a strong header that went past her own goalkeeper, so giving Germany the lead.
  • On September 2, 2017, Scott announced his retirement from playing football internationally. She finished her career with 140 appearances, making her the second most capped player in England’s history at the time of her retirement.
  • When the Football Association (FA) revealed their legacy numbers program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of England’s first international, Scott was given the number 155 after the announcement.

Media Career

  • During the time that she was still playing football, Scott began her career in the media by making appearances on programs such as Soccer AM. In addition to lesser jobs at Sky Sports, BT Sport, and BBC Sport throughout his time there.
  • She attended Staffordshire University and earned a degree in Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting when she was representing Arsenal in the National Football League.
  • As well as writing a piece for The Independent during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, she also contributed to the Morning Star newspaper, where she penned a monthly column on women’s football.
  • She competed in the ITV show Mission Survive, which was hosted by Bear Grylls, and she finished in first place.
  • Since her retirement in 2017, Scott has been concentrating her efforts on television broadcasting full-time, and she is currently a co-host on the Match of the Day Kickabout program.
  • During her coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, she became the first female football commentator to ever work for the BBC during a World Cup. As a result, she gained widespread recognition among a wider audience.
  • Immediately following the conclusion of the tournament, she continued to offer her insights on the Premier League. In August of 2018, she made history by being the first female pundit to join the Super Sunday team team at Sky Sports.
  • One of the contestants on the seventeenth season of Strictly Come Dancing, which took place in September 2019, was Scott, who was partnered with the professional dancer Neil Jones.
  • She made history by becoming the first female football player to appear on the show. In the eleventh week, the couple was eliminated, finishing in fifth place.
  • In May of 2021, it was revealed that Scott would be taking over as the host of Football Focus, after Dan Walker’s decision to step down from his position.
  • It was reported in July 2021 that Scott will be the host of a new daytime quiz show on the BBC called The Tournament, which kicked off airing in November of that same year.
  • During the month of June in the year 2023, Scott was featured in the national advertisement for the service WhatsApp. Scott played the role of Karen Johal, who is known for her role in Ted Lasso, in the advertisement titled “A Private Message.”
