Annabel Croft – Annabel Nicola Croft is a British broadcaster on radio and as well as a former professional tennis player. She was born on July 12, 1966 in the United Kingdom. As a tennis player, she triumphed at the Virginia Slims of San Diego tournament on the WTA Tour, and she competed for Great Britain in the Fed Cup and the Wightman Cup.

After a successful career in tennis, she transitioned into a presenting role on television, appearing on shows including Treasure Hunt and Interceptor. In 2005, she competed in and ultimately won the reality show Celebrity Wrestling, which was broadcast on ITV. In the year 2023, it was revealed that Croft will be one of the candidates competing in that season of Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC.

Annabel Croft Career

  • Croft was born in the town of Farnborough in the state of Kent. After capturing the girls’ singles titles at Wimbledon and the Australian Open in 1984, she went on to win the Virginia Slims of San Diego tournament in 1985.
  • In the championship match, she prevailed over Wendy Turnbull in straight sets. In December of 1985, she reached position number 24 in the world rankings. She represented Great Britain in the Wightman Cup from 1983 to 1986 and in the Fed Cup in 1985 and 1986.
  • She also competed for Great Britain in the Fed Cup. She continued to compete right up to February of 1988, but she was never able to make it to another final.
  • Croft gave up her career as a professional tennis player at the young age of twenty-one, despite being one of the top 25 players in the world at the time. She did so because she was exhausted by the nonstop travel and the fact that she no longer enjoyed playing the sport.                                     
  • Following Anneka Rice’s successful term as the host of the prime time show Treasure Hunt on Channel 4, Croft took on the role of the show’s host almost immediately after she retired. After this, she began hosting her own show on ITV called “Interceptor.”
  • Croft was one of five people who volunteered to be homeless on the streets of London for the BBC documentary series Famous, Rich and Homeless, which aired in June 2009 and focused on the topic of surviving on very little money in the city.
  • She worked as a presenter for Sky Sports, covering events such as the US Open in 2012. In addition, she co-hosted the tennis tournament coverage show “Game, Set & Mats” on Eurosport in 2015 alongside the retired tennis player Mats Wilander during the Grand Slam tournament weeks.
  • Croft, who is a broadcaster on Eurosport, was the master of ceremonies for the international competition for journalism and factual production that was the AIB Media Excellence Awards in November of 2011. She was the recipient of the IC of GB Sportsmanship Award in 2021, which was presented to a British tennis player in recognition of their exemplary demeanor as a sportsman or sportswoman throughout the course of their career.
  • Former champions include Sue Barker (2019), Virginia Wade (2017), Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman (1999), and Jeremy Bates. Sue Barker is the current reigning champion.
