Anthony Joshua Career

  • The news that Joshua had turned professional under the Matchroom Sport promotional banner was announced on July 11th, 2013, and it was confirmed at that time. Joshua won his first fight as a professional on October 5, 2013, at the O2 Arena in London. The fight was the main event of a show that also featured Scott Quigg’s successful defense of his WBA super-bantamweight title against Yoandris Salinas.
  • Joshua won his maiden fight by technical knockout (TKO) in the first round. His opponent was Italian Emanuele Leo. On October 26, 2013, Joshua competed in his second fight, which was against Paul Butlin, an English heavyweight. The bout took place at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.
  • Joshua improved his record to 4-0 by defeating Dorian Darch via technical knockout in the second round of their fight in February of 2014. Joshua knocked out Hector Alfredo Avila in the first round of their fight in the next month, which took place in Glasgow, Scotland, on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ fight against Terence Crawford.
  • Joshua has a perfect record of 10 wins, all of which have come via knockout. He won his tenth fight, which took place on November 22, 2014, by stopping Michael Sprott in the first round.
  • Due to the short duration of the bout (1 minute and 26 seconds), Joshua now has a combined total of just 36 minutes and 36 seconds of ring time since entering the professional ranks.
  • Joshua was scheduled to compete against Gary Cornish, a Scottish boxer who was unbeaten with a record of 21–0 and 12 knockouts, on September 12 at The O2 Arena in London for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title.
  • The fight was announced on July 16, 2015. Cornish was the reigning champion of the IBO Intercontinental division at the time of the fight.
  • Joshua was scheduled to fight IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23–0–1, 21 KOs) on April 9, 2016, at the O2 Arena, according to an announcement made in February of 2016. After defeating Vyacheslav Glazkov for the vacant title in January 2016, Martin was making his first defense of the belt he had won.
  • Joshua was scheduled to face Jermaine Franklin in his first fight back in the ring on April 1, 2023, at The O2 Arena, according to an official announcement made on February 6, 2023. It would be the first fight in his exclusive five-year deal with the sports streaming service DAZN, which began when he signed with the company.
  • The fight between Whyte and Robert Helenius was set to take place on August 12, 2023; however, on August 8, 2023, it was reported that Robert Helenius would be taking Whyte’s spot in the match. Joshua won the fight via knockout thanks to a right hook that was landed in the seventh round.
