Ben Shelton Career

In July, Shelton competed in the Georgia’s Rome Challenger and made it all the way to the final, where he was ultimately defeated by Wu Yibing. The next week, he competed in the Indy Challenger and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. His most notable victory came against Tim van Rijthoven, who is ranked 103rd in the world.

At the Atlanta Open, which was his maiden tournament on the ATP Tour, he received a wild card and proceeded to win his first match, which came against Ramkumar Ramanathan in the first round. He suffered a three-set defeat at the hands of the No. 2 seed John Isner in his subsequent match. Shelton was granted a spot in the Cincinnati Masters as a result of a wildcard admission.

His fifth Challenger final was a rematch of his last one versus Christopher Eubanks in the Knoxville Challenger, which he won. This victory helped him climb another 20 spots in the rankings, taking him all the way up to No. 108 on November 14.

After winning his third consecutive championship at the Champaign–Urbana Challenger, he made his debut in the top 100 of the rankings on November 21, 2022, finishing the year at world No. 97. He also became the youngest player in the history of the ATP Challenger Tour to win three titles in three weeks. Additionally, he held the title of being the youngest American to place in the top 250.
