Brian Cox Career

At the age of 14, Brian Cox began his acting career at Dundee Repertory Theatre in 1961. Two years later, he became one of the founding members of the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh and appeared in the theater’s debut production, “The Servant O’ Twa Maisters,” in October 1965.

On June of 1967, he made his debut on the West End as Orlando in a production of As You Like It at the Vaudeville Theatre. He began his career in the theater in 1966 by working for two years at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where he portrayed the title role in Peer Gynt (1967).

After spending some years instructing and directing at the Moscow Arts Theatre School, Cox returned to the United Kingdom to participate with the Royal National Theatre in a global tour of King Lear (1990–1991), for which he received widespread praise for his performance as the lead character.

His portrayal of the emotional and physical challenges that came with portraying the all-consuming character of King Lear was documented in The Lear Diaries (1995), which he penned. In the horror movie “Separation,” which was released in 2021, he portrayed the role of Paul Rivers.

It was reported in July 2021 that Cox would be joining the cast of the family drama Prisoner’s Daughter. The show recounts the narrative of an ex-con trying to reconcile with his daughter and grandson. Cox will play the role of the father.
