Coby White – Alec Jacoby “Coby” White is a professional basketball player from the United States who currently plays for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). White was born on February 16, 2000. When he was in college, he was a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team.

After completing his high school career, White finished as the highest prep scorer in the history of the state of North Carolina. He was a top player in the state. Following his selection by the Bulls with the seventh overall choice in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft, he was honored with a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in the following year, 2020.

Coby White College Career

  • On November 8, 2017, White accepted North Carolina’s offer to play for the team by signing a National Letter of Intent. On November 6, 2018, White made his debut in a game against Wofford.
  • He started at point guard and finished with eight points and three assists in North Carolina’s victory over Wofford, which was 78–67.                                                     
  • On February 26, 2019, as his team was competing against Syracuse, White scored a career-high 34 points while guiding the Tar Heels to a victory by a score of 93–85.
  • As a result of his 469 points scored in North Carolina’s 79–66 victory over Boston College on March 5, White surpassed Michael Jordan to become the all-time leader in scoring for North Carolina’s freshmen class.
  • After spending one season at North Carolina, where he was named to the All-ACC Second Team, White made his decision to enter the 2019 NBA draft for the first time on April 3, 2019.

Professional Career

  • With the seventh overall choice in the 2019 NBA draft, the Chicago Bulls selected Coby White with the seventh overall pick on June 20, 2019. Since Michael Jordan was selected by the Bulls in 1984, White is the first player from North Carolina to be selected by the team in the first round of the draft.
  • The signing of White with the Bulls took place on July 1st, 2019. Together with fellow 2019 draftee Daniel Gafford, White took part in the 2019 NBA Summer League. During his time there, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game throughout the competition.
  • White made his debut in the National Basketball Association (NBA) on October 23, 2019, when he came off the bench to give his team a 126–125 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.                                                                                                                       
  • He finished with 17 points, three rebounds, and seven assists. As a result of this game, he became the first player born in the 2000s to ever participate in the National Basketball Association.
  • With seven three-pointers shot in the fourth quarter of the game against the New York Knicks on November 12, 2019, White established a new franchise record for the most three-pointers made in a single quarter for the Chicago Bulls. White finished with 27 points in the Bulls’ decision to win 120–102.
  • A loss to the Phoenix Suns by a score of 112–104 occurred on February 22, 2020, and White scored a then-career-high 33 points in the game. On the following day, White would be able to match his career high by leading the Bulls to a victory over the Washington Wizards by a score of 126–117.
  • White made history by being the first rookie in NBA history to score 30 points in consecutive games while coming off the bench. On February 25, White continued his streak and surpassed his career high by scoring 35 points in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
  • The game ended in a loss for Wisconsin by a score of 124–122. By the National Basketball Association (NBA), White was selected to the 2019–20 NBA All-Rookie Second Team on September 15, 2020.
  • On February 10, 2021, White ended with 30 points, eight 3-pointers, and seven assists in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans by a score of 129–116. He also set a franchise record for the Bulls alongside his teammate Zach LaVine by making eight shots from beyond the arc.
  • White had surgery on his left shoulder on June 10, 2021, and he was unable to return to work for at least four months after the procedure. White’s fourth-year option was exercised by the Bulls on September 22nd, ensuring that he will remain under the Bulls’ management until the 2022–23 season.
  • White made history on January 31, 2023, when he became the fastest player in the history of the Bulls franchise to make 500 career three-point baskets.
