David Foster Biography

David Foster – David Walter Foster is an Canadian musician, songwriter, arranger, record producer, and music executive. He was the chair of Verve Records from 2012 to 2016, during which time he was born on November 1, 1949. He is the recipient of 16 Grammy Awards out of a total of 47 nominations.

Beginning in the early 1970s as a keyboardist for the pop group Skylark, he then focused mostly on writing and producing music until retiring from the music industry. His career in music spans more than five decades.

David Foster Career

Eirik Wangberg was the one who introduced Foster to the musical group Skylark, where he played the keyboard. In 1973, the song “Wildflower” was one of the top 10 most popular songs. After the group broke up, Foster decided to stay in Los Angeles, where he eventually joined forces with Jay Graydon to establish the band Airplay.

In 1975, Foster contributed his talents to the album Extra Texture by George Harrison. After that, a year later, he participated in the recording of George Harrison’s album 33 1/3 by playing the Fender Rhodes and the clavinet on the album. In 1976, Foster collaborated with Guthrie Thomas on the recording of Thomas’ second album for Capitol Records, titled Lies and Alibis.

The album also featured Ringo Starr and a number of other musicians. As a studio player and arranger, Foster was a significant contributor to Earth, Wind & Fire’s album I Am, which was released in 1979. Six of the songs on the album were written by him and his collaborators, including “After the Love Has Gone,” which earned him and his collaborators, Graydon and Bill Champlin, the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 1980. He was a co-writer on six of the songs on the album.

Foster collaborated with the young singer Jackie Evancho on May 30, 2011, for the Dream With Me concert that was broadcast on PBS and held at the Ringling Brothers Museum in Sarasota, Florida. It was officially announced on the 15th of December, 2011, that Foster would be taking over as Chairman of Verve Music Group.

It includes performances from singers such as Marc Anthony, Jessie J, The Clark Sisters, and Barbra Streisand, as well as Chris Botti. Passione, an album recorded by Andrea Bocelli and produced by Foster, was released in January of 2013. This CD is a collection of love songs from the Mediterranean and has duets with Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado, in addition to a “virtual duet” with Edith Piaf.

He is the composer of a musical based on Betty Boop, while Susan Birkenhead and Bob Martin are responsible for the book and lyrics, respectively. BOOP! It is planned that The Musical will make its pre-Broadway debut in the fall of 2023 at the CIBC Theatre in Chicago.

Foster was the son of Maurice “Maury” Foster, who worked as an office worker, and Eleanor May Foster (née Vantreight), who worked as a housewife. Foster was born in Victoria, British Columbia. In 1963, when he was only 13 years old, he signed up for the music program at the University of Washington.

In 1965, he participated in an audition for the position of band leader at a nightclub in Edmonton that was operated by jazz musician Tommy Banks. Foster was given guidance by Banks in the areas of jazz, record production, and the music industry.
