Dean Sullivan, an actor who played Jimmy Corkhill in the television series Brookside, passed away at the age of 68


Dean Sullivan, an actor and director who was known for his role in the film Brookside, passed away at the age of 68.

Jimmy Corkhill was a character that Sullivan played in the television soap opera Mersey, which at its height regularly had audiences of eight million people. Sullivan was born and schooled in Liverpool.

Following a brief battle with sickness, actor Dean Sullivan passed away on November 29, 2023, according to a statement released by Hamilton Management and Sullivan’s family. “It is with deep sadness that we must tell you that actor Dean Sullivan passed away peacefully.”

Although Dean is best known for his part as Jimmy Corkhill on the trailblazing British soap opera Brookside, which he played for the longest period of time, he is best recognized for being the longest-serving cast member on the show.

To a large number of people, he was and continues to be remembered as Jimmy; yet, to his family and friends, he was known as Dino.

The year 2018 marked the year that he received the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and in 2019, he discussed his treatment and the diagnosis with the Mirror.

Later, he was given the all-clear, and in an interview with the Liverpool Echo this year, he explained that he went to the doctor for the first time because the “strength of my flow when I used to go to the loo to have a pee was reduced.” He described this as the reason he went to the doctor.

“The first time I went to the doctor’s surgery, he said we’ll just keep an eye on it and see how you go on,” he continued. “It was a very positive experience.” After a few weeks had passed, I instinctively realized that something was wrong.

When I returned, I went to see a physician who specialized in the treatment of prostate conditions. A brief examination was performed on me, and within two weeks, I was at the hospital, where I was having a conversation with the specialist.

It may have been a different story if I had put more stock in the advice of the first doctor; thus, you should always go with your instinct. Eleven times out of ten, you are absolutely correct. Our instinct to either fight or flee is still very much present.

In 1986, Sullivan became a regular cast member on Brookside, and because to the popularity of his character, he got the job almost immediately.

Brookside was the creation of Phil Redmond, the designer of Grange Hill. It was introduced in November 1982, and its houses were located in a real cul-de-sac, which was a part of a housing estate in West Derby, Liverpool. Amanda Burton, Claire Sweeney, and Anna Friel are just a few of the many well-known performers that got their start in the entertainment industry because to the show.

The last episode was shot in September of 2003, and it was shown in November of that same year. The face of Corkhill was the one that was displayed on the television for the final time.

Before beginning his career as an actor, he received his degree from Lancaster University and worked as a teacher in elementary schools.
