Derek CarrDerek Dallas Carr is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. Carr was born on March 28, 1991. He participated in college football at Fresno State, where he was named to the first team All-MWC on two separate occasions. Following his collegiate career, the Oakland Raiders selected him in the second round of the NFL Draft in 2014.

Carr was a major contributor to the Raiders making the playoffs in 2016, which was the team’s first postseason participation since 2002, and he also helped the Raiders earn a berth in the playoffs in 2021.

Carr was the third and final child of Rodger and Sheryl Carr, and he was the youngest of the three. Carr was born in Bakersfield, California. Before moving to Sugar Land, Texas in 2002, he and his family lived in Bakersfield.

However, they uprooted their lives and made the move when his elder brother, David Carr, was selected with the first overall pick by the then-expansion Houston Texans.

Derek Carr Career

  • Carr was chosen by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Raiders used the 36th overall choice to make their selection. When that year’s draft came up, he was the fourth quarterback to be chosen.
  • On May 16th, the number four that he had sought was given to him. On May 21, he was given a deal that was worth $5.37 million over four years and included a signing bonus of $2.2 million.
  • Carr impressed the coaches and fans during the Raiders’ fourth and final preseason game on August 28 against the Seattle Seahawks.                                                                                               
  • Carr came into the game as the backup to Matt Schaub and led the Raiders to three touchdowns in the first quarter before being relieved. Carr then threw another touchdown pass on the Raiders’ next possession of the second quarter before being taken out of the game.
  • Carr left the game early on September 13 after suffering an injury to his throwing hand in the Raiders’ season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury forced Carr to leave the game early.                                                                                                                                                       
  • Carr had a solid start to the 2016 season, leading the Oakland Raiders to a victory over the New Orleans Saints by throwing for 319 yards, scoring one touchdown, and converting a late two-point try to take the lead.[84Carr made his first career postseason start against the Cincinnati Bengals and threw for 310 yards and a score in the Wild Card Round loss.
  • However, he also lost a fumble and threw the game-winning interception to Germaine Pratt, which resulted in the Bengals winning the game 26–19. Carr had his first appearance on the list in the past three years, coming in at number 65 on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2022 list that was compiled by the players themselves.
