Detroit Pistons tie NBA record with 28 straight losses after losing to Boston Celtics in overtime

In a game that took place on Thursday, the Detroit Pistons resumed their march toward infamy by suffering a loss to the Boston Celtics by a score of 128-122 in overtime. This loss tied an NBA record for the most consecutive losses in a single season.

Over the past two months, the Pistons have been on an unequaled single-season run of failure. On Tuesday, they set the NBA record for the most consecutive losses in a season with 27. This record was previously held by the Detroit Pistons.

With its most recent defeat, Detroit has tied the best losing streak in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA), which stands at 28 games. its run was set by the Philadelphia 76ers, which lasted from the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season to the beginning of the following year.

After the game, Monty Williams, the head coach of the Pistons, expressed his feelings by saying, “I hurt for them. You know, we just we feel like we’re just getting so close to not just winning one game but winning a lot of games if we play that way against most teams in the league.”

While the Pistons entered the game with a record that was the poorest in the NBA at 2-28, the Celtics came into the game with the best record in the NBA, which was 23-6.

The Pistons were leading 66-47 at the halftime break, despite the fact that they were playing against the wrong team. However, Boston came roaring back to tie the game by outscoring Detroit 35 to 16 in the third quarter at TD Garden in Boston, which was filled with a boisterous crowd.

In the fourth quarter, both teams traded leads throughout the entirety of the game. However, Boston was able to seize the lead with a score of 106-100 with less than two minutes remaining throughout the game.

On the other hand, Detroit would answer by scoring six consecutive points, led by Jaden Ivey, to eventually tie the game.

Despite the fact that both teams were knotted at 108-108, the great player for the Celtics, Jayson Tatum, had the opportunity to win the game at the buzzer, but he missed the midrange jumper, which resulted in the game going into overtime.

In overtime, Boston guard Derrick White scored ten points, which was a significant factor in the Celtics’ ability to pull away and win the game.

In their most recent victory, which took place on October 28th, the Pistons prevailed over the Chicago Bulls.

“I told them that it takes a lot of character and integrity to do what they’re doing,” said Williams, the coach of the Pistons. I have been a part of the league for a considerable amount of time, and over that time I have witnessed teams give in to conditions that are less than what we are dealing with, and I found that to be admirable.

The previous single-season record for the most games lost in a single season was held by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010-2011 and the Philadelphia 76ers in (2013)-2014.

When the Pistons take on the Toronto Raptors in Detroit on Saturday, they will have the opportunity to either break the NBA record or put an end to their losing run. Both of these outcomes are entirely possible.
