Ezekiel Elliott College Career

  • Elliott, who was a true freshman at Ohio State University in 2013, rushed for 262 yards on 30 rushes and scored two touchdowns while serving as a backup to Carlos Hyde, who was the starting quarterback. Elliott mostly played the role of a gunner on special teams.
  • Elliott took over as the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2014, when Hyde left to play in the National Football League.
  • Throughout the course of the season, Elliott was selected for the Academic All-Big Ten Conference team recognition. Six times during the regular season, Elliott managed to rush for more than one hundred yards.
  • Elliott opened the 2015 season by running for more than 100 yards in each of the first ten games of the season, including a game against Indiana on October 3 that totaled 274 yards, which was the second most ever rushed by an Ohio State player.
  • On the other hand, the squad was defeated by Michigan State by a score of 14–17 on November 21, 2015, and Elliott made the announcement that he will be entering the football draft in 2016.
  • While Elliott was a student at Ohio State, he was awarded a number of prestigious accolades. Through the course of the 2014 season, Elliott was honored with the title of Offensive Most Valuable Player for both the Sugar Bowl and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game 2015.

Professional Career

  • Prior to the draft, Elliott was declared the most complete running back to enter the National Football League (NFL) since Adrian Peterson in 2007, and it was anticipated that he would be selected within the top ten.
  • In a draft breakdown published by NFL.com, he was described as a three-down back who possessed a “rare combination of size, athleticism, pass-catching and blocking skills.”
  • Additionally, he was compared to Edgerrin James, and it was stated that he “should still come out of the gates as one of the most productive young running backs in the league.”
  • During the 2016 NFL Draft, which took place on April 28, 2016, the Dallas Cowboys selected Elliott with the fourth overall choice in the first round using the fourth overall pick. During that particular selection, he was the first running back overall to be taken.
  • Elliott allegedly signed his four-year rookie contract on May 18, 2016, which was reportedly valued $24.9 million and included a signing bonus of $16.3 million from the team.
  • As a result of Elliott’s violation of the personal conduct rules, the National Football League (NFL) suspended him for the first six games of the 2017 season on August 11, 2017. During the year 2016, he was suspended due to allegations of domestic abuse that were made against his ex-girlfriend on five separate occasions.
  • After conducting an investigation into the claims for a period of one year, NFL officials made the decision to punish Elliott, despite the fact that he was never charged with a criminal offense.
  • As the 2017 season came to a close, Elliott finished with 242 carries for 983 yards and seven touchdowns. In addition, he finished with 26 receptions for 269 yards and two scores. Elliott played in ten games and started all of them. He was ranked 54th on the list of the Top 100 Players in the National Football League for 2018.
  • During the 2018 season, Elliott finished with a total of 1,434 running yards and six touchdowns. In addition, he finished with 77 receptions for 567 yards and three scores.
  • Elliott played in 15 games and started all of them. For the second time in the past three seasons, he was victorious in the rushing competition.
  • On the 17th of April, 2019, the Cowboys exercised their right to purchase Elliott’s fifth-year option on his contract. On the other hand, Elliott started to become uncooperative throughout training camp, requesting that his contract be extended.
  • Elliott’s contract was restructured by the Cowboys on August 27, 2021, and as part of the process, $8.6 million of his base pay for the next season was converted into a signing bonus. This was done in order to conserve some space on the salary cap.
  • To conclude the 2022 season, Elliot completed with a total of 876 running yards and 12 touchdowns. Additionally, he finished with 17 receptions for 92 yards and zero touchdowns. He participated in 15 games and started 14 of them.
  • Seven of his twelve touchdowns on the ground were scored from the one-yard line, and ten of them were scored from within six yards of the goal line.
  • Elliott agreed to terms with the New England Patriots on August 16, 2023, and inked a contract that was for one year.
  • Bill O’Brien, the offensive coordinator for the Patriots, claimed that Elliott will be utilized mostly in circumstances involving third down and red zone situations, behind Rhamondre Stevenson, the starting quarterback.
