Jalen Hurts Career

  • During the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Hurts as the 53rd overall player overall. After being given the role of third-string quarterback behind Nate Sudfeld at the beginning of the season, he was promoted to the backup quarterback position during Week 2, primarily so that he could participate in quarterback runs or act as a decoy.
  • In the game against the Green Bay Packers on December 6, 2020, Hurts came in as a replacement for Carson Wentz, who had been benched due to his dismal play.
  • Hurts completed the game with 109 passing yards, a touchdown throw to Greg Ward for his first career touchdown pass, and an interception despite the team’s loss by a score of 30–16. The game was played in week 13 of the season.
  • Before the start of the regular season, Hurts opted to change his jersey number to No. 1, which had become vacant after punter Cameron Johnston was released from his contract. On the 31st of August, 2021, new head coach Nick Sirianni announced that Hurts would be the team’s starting quarterback for the regular season.
  • Hurts improved to 3-0 on the season after the victory, completing 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 340 yards and three touchdowns. The game’s final score was 24-8. As a result of his outstanding effort throughout the month of September, the National Football Conference awarded Hurts its Offensive Player of the Month.
  • He is the first Eagles player to earn this award since 2017. During the Divisional Round of the 2022–23 NFL playoffs, which took place on January 21, 2023, Hurts led the Eagles to a victory over the New York Giants by a score of 38–7.
  • On April 17, 2023, Hurts signed a five-year contract deal with the Baltimore Ravens for $255 million ($180 million guaranteed), $50 million each year. This made him the highest paid player in the history of the National Football League, but he was overtaken by Lamar Jackson’s contract with the Baltimore Ravens just ten days later. This will be the first time in Eagles history that a deal has included a no-trade clause.
