Jelly Roll Career

  • Roll got his start in the music industry as a rapper before he ventured into the world of country music. Because of the influence of other rappers like Three 6 Mafia, UGK, and 8Ball & MJG, among others.
  • He would sell mixtapes out of the trunk of his car, commencing with a string of releases from his debut project The Plain Shmear Tape in 2003 and then followed it up with the four part Gamblin’ on the White Boy series from 2004 to 2011.
  • Over 6.3 million people have watched him perform “Pop Another Pill” with Memphis rapper Lil Wyte. The song was released in 2010. This song was the inspiration for the hip-hop group SNO to create the album Year Round, which featured he as a member.                                                   
  • Roll released a number of mixtapes and an independent solo album throughout the course of the subsequent few years. These releases featured collaborations with artists such as Lil Wyte, Struggle Jennings, Haystak, and Tech N9ne.
  • Whiskey, Weed, & Women is a mixtape that was released in 2013 by Roll. The mixtape’s initial title was Whiskey, Weed, & Waffle House; however, this was altered because the restaurant threatened legal action due to the usage of their name and emblem on the cover of the mixtape.
  • The original cover was replaced with one that had a stamp reading “cease and desist” in lieu of the Waffle House emblem.
  • On November 9, 2021, he made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. On July 7, 2022, a country artist named Craig Morgan extended an invitation to him to perform “Almost Home” beside him on stage at the Grand Ole Opry.
  • In February of 2023, he broke a record by spending his 25th consecutive week on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart, cementing his place in the annals of music history.
  • On December 9, 2022, Roll performed at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in front of 15,000 fans. He was joined on stage by Chris Young, Sam Hunt, Riley Green, Shinedown, Ernest, Struggle Jennings, Tech N9ne, and Krizz Kaliko. The concert sold out.
  • In the summer of 2023, he will begin the “Backroad Baptism Tour,” which will take him to 44 different cities.
  • Roll’s performance of “Son of a Sinner” earned him three awards at the 2023 CMT Music Awards: male video of the year, male breakthrough video of the year, and digital-first performance of the year. All three awards were presented for the song.
