Jimbo Fisher Assistant coaching Career

  • After spending one season playing for the Chicago Bruisers in the Arena Football League in 1988, Fisher re-joined Terry Bowden at Samford University to take up a position as a graduate assistant coach working with quarterbacks from 1988 to 1990. Following that, he was given the job of serving as the permanent offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

  • Following the completion of two seasons, Fisher followed Bowden to Auburn University, where he worked as a quarterbacks coach. During his time at Auburn, Fisher was responsible for the development of several talented quarterbacks, notably Patrick Nix.

  • Before joining Nick Saban’s staff at LSU in 2000, Fisher spent one season as the offensive coordinator and coached quarterbacks at Cincinnati. During the same season, he also coached quarterbacks.

  • Fisher remained at LSU after Nick Saban left to become head coach of the NFL team the Miami Dolphins, so that he could continue his work with Les Miles.

  • His employment agreement stipulated a salary of $215,000, plus incentives that could bring the whole package up into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

  • Fisher was given the title of “head coach in waiting” after completing his first season in that role at Florida State, which positions him to take over for Bobby Bowden as head coach in the long run.

  • After the Seminoles’ game against West Virginia in the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day 2010, head coach Bobby Bowden made the announcement that he would step down from his position on December 1, 2009.

  • During his final season as a Bowden assistant, Fisher began the process of choosing his coaching staff and recruiting players while also preparing the squad for their bowl game.

Head Coach Career

  • At a press conference held on the campus of Florida State University on January 7, 2010, Jimbo Fisher was presented to the media for the first time in his capacity as head coach. “Empowered, confident athletes are winners,” according to him.

  • “My goal is to get the structure, the people, and the support resources in place to facilitate a winning plan, and then bring players into the structure so that they can start impacting change. Now.” After that, Fisher made his 2010 coaching staff announcements.

  • In his first year as head coach of the Seminoles, Jimbo Fisher guided the team to its first 10-win season since 2003 and only its second since the turn of the millennium.

  • In addition to that, they won the Chick-fil-A Bowl and swept their in-state rivals Miami and Florida for the first time since 1999. South Carolina was their opponent in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

  • The next year, the Seminoles, who were led by quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, went through the season unbeaten and defeated Auburn in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game to capture the school’s third national championship and first since 1999. This victory brought the school its first national championship since 1999.

  • Fisher tendered his resignation as head coach at Florida State University on December 1, 2017, and accepted a position in the same capacity at Texas A&M University. The Aggies have Fisher under contract for the next ten years at a salary of $75 million.

  • A vote was held by the Texas A&M Board of Regents prior to the 2021 season, and they decided to extend Fisher’s contract through the 2031 season. Fisher’s annual salary would increase to $9 million beginning on the first of January 2022.

  • If he had been let go without cause prior to December 1, 2021, he would have been entitled to the highest buyout clause in the history of college football, which would have paid him $95.6 million.

  • As the sixth-ranked team in the nation, the Aggies would go into the 2022 season with great expectations. They started out with a record of six wins and nine losses, with one of those defeats coming at the hands of unranked Appalachian State in the Aggies’ second game.

  • During the course of the season, the Aggies were on a losing run that lasted for six games. The Aggies suffered their first losing streak of six games in a row since the 1972 season, which lasted until 2022.

  • The squad finished the season with a record of 5–7, which meant that they were not eligible for a bowl game. Despite this, the team ended the year on a high note by pulling off an upset victory over #5 LSU by a score of 38–23.

  • Fisher was terminated from his position on November 12th, 2023.
