Joe Flacco Career

  • Flacco was gloomy about his chances of playing in the NFL while he was attending Delaware, and after his junior year, he asked his coach for permission to play baseball instead of football.
  • Flacco was taken aback by the fact that the coach had anticipated that he would be selected in the NFL Draft. Flacco cemented his position as one of the top five quarterbacks available in the 2008 NFL Draft by delivering strong performances at both the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine.
  • Following a series of trades that saw the franchise drop from the eighth overall selection to the 26th, then move up again, the Baltimore Ravens selected quarterback Joe Flacco in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft as the 18th overall pick.
  • Flacco became the highest-drafted player ever to come out of the University of Delaware thanks to this selection. In addition to that, he was the first quarterback from Division I-FCS (previously I-AA) to be taken in the first round of an NFL Draft since Steve McNair was selected by the Houston Oilers in the third overall spot in the 1995 NFL Draft.
  • Flacco took over as the starting quarterback for the Ravens in their opening game of the 2008 season against the Cincinnati Bengals after incumbent starter Kyle Boller was sidelined with an injury that ended his season and former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith became ill.
  • After that, he was victorious in his second game, which was played against the Tennessee Titans. In the divisional playoff round, the Ravens won 13–10 behind Flacco’s stellar performance at quarterback.
  • During the go-ahead scoring drive in the fourth quarter, Flacco completed passes into tight windows to Todd Heap and Mark Clayton, which paved the way for Matt Stover to kick the game-winning field goal.
  • Flacco concluded the game against the Indianapolis Colts on January 6, 2013, in the Wild Card round with a career postseason high 125.6 passer rating after completing 12 of 23 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns, and a 125.6 passer rating.
  • The home victory of 24–9 over the Ravens in the regular season set up a rematch with the Denver Broncos in the Divisional round. The Broncos entered the game as nine-point favorites after their victory over the Ravens in the regular season, which included a 98-yard interception touchdown return by the Broncos’ cornerback Chris Harris, which marked the low point of Flacco’s season.
  • In the opening game of the 2018 season, a 47–3 victory over the Buffalo Bills, which took place on September 9, 2018, Joe Flacco threw for three touchdowns and had a passer rating of 121.7.
  • On February 13, 2019, the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens reached an agreement for the Ravens to trade quarterback Joe Flacco to the Broncos in return for the Ravens’ fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. On March 13, 2019, the transaction was finalized and made official.
  • Flacco re-signed with the Jets for another year on March 16, 2022, this time for a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. Due to an injury that occurred to starter Zach Wilson, it was decided that he would take over as the starting quarterback for the first three weeks of the season.
  • Flacco started for the Jets in Week 1 against his previous team, the Baltimore Ravens, and threw 37 of 59 passes for 307 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while the Jets were defeated 9–24. On November 20, 2023, Flacco was given a contract to join the practice squad for the Cleveland Browns.
