Jon Jones – Jonathan Dwight Jones is an American professional mixed martial artist who was born on July 19, 1987. He is presently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion. Since 2008, he has been competing on a professional level, and he has twice been crowned the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

His first reign as champion lasted from March 2011 to April 2015, and his second reign will last from December 2018 until August 2020. Additionally, Jones was the interim champion of the UFC Light Heavyweight Division in 2016. As of the 7th of March in 2023, he holds the number one spot in the pound-for-pound rankings for men in the UFC.

  • Jones was a standout high school wrestler who won a state championship while attending Union-Endicott High School in Endicott, New York, prior to commencing his career in mixed martial arts.
  • He also played football as a defensive lineman, and his coach gave him the moniker “Bones” due to the fact that he had a small body. While competing at Iowa Central Community College, Jones was victorious in the NJCAA wrestling national title.
  • On August 9, 2008, Jones made his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship by defeating André Gusmo at UFC 87. Jones had agreed to the terms of the contract with only two weeks’ notice in order to fill in for Tomasz Drwal.                                                                                                       
  • Jake O’Brien was Jones’s opponent in his third fight, which took place on July 11, 2009, at UFC 100. Jones was in complete command for the majority of the bout, and he eventually put O’Brien to sleep with a modified guillotine choke that forced him to submit.
  • On April 27, 2014, UFC President Dana White said that Jones would next have a rematch versus Gustafsson, and he expressed the chance that the battle would take place in a stadium in Sweden on pay-per-view. White also stated that the match may take place in a stadium in Sweden.

  • On March 4, 2023, Jones competed against Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 285. This match took place more than three years after Jones’s most recent fight.
  • He won the fight and was awarded the title by submitting his opponent with a guillotine choke in the first round. Following the bout, Jones was awarded the bonus for having the Best Performance of the Night.
