JT Daniels – Jonathan Tyler Daniels is a former college football quarterback from the United States. He was born on February 2, 2000, and he played for the USC Trojans and the Georgia Bulldogs.

While playing for the Bulldogs, he earned the American Football Conference national championship as Stetson Bennett’s backup quarterback. After that, he moved on to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers, and that was his penultimate stop before joining the Rice Owls.

JT Daniels Career

  • In the time leading up to his reclassification, Daniels was listed by Rivals.com as the top overall recruit in his class, earning him a perfect score of five stars throughout the process. He has made a commitment to play collegiate football at the University of Southern California (USC), where he will be attending.
  • In the month of December 2017, Daniels made the announcement that he will be graduating from high school ahead of schedule and reclassifying to the class of 2018.After completing all of his high school coursework, he enrolled in the University of Southern California in June of 2018.
  • During the fall camp that lasted for two weeks at USC, which began in August 2018, he participated in a three-way race for the starting quarterback position.       
  • Over the course of just three weeks, Daniels was selected as the starting quarterback, surpassing the incumbents Matt Fink and Jack Sears. This made him the second true freshman in the history of the institution to start the first game of the season.
  • 2019 was the year that he triumphed over Fink, Sears, and Kedon Slovis to secure the starting job. During the inaugural game of the season, which was played against Fresno State, he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) as a result of a sack in the second quarter. Prior to the injury, he had completed 25 of 34 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
  • On May 28, 2020, Daniels made the announcement that he will be moving to the University of Georgia from his current institution. On the 13th of July, 2020, the NCAA decided to award Daniels immediate eligibility to participate in the game.
  • At the beginning of the 2020 season, Daniels was in competition with other players for the starting job, including Jamie Newman, D’Wan Mathis, Stetson Bennett, and Carson Beck.
  • There was an announcement made by Daniels on April 13, 2022, stating that he intended to transfer to West Virginia University. Midway through the season, he was replaced on the bench by Garrett Greene. The transfer portal was accessed by Daniels on the 5th of December.
  • In the course of his six-year collegiate career, Daniels made the announcement on December 20, 2022 that he intended to transfer to Rice University, which would be his fourth program overall.
  • While leading the Rice Owls football team to a victory in the Bayou Bucket Classic, Daniels threw for a career-high 401 yards and three touchdowns, leading the club to a 43-41 victory in two overtimes.
  • After suffering many concussions throughout the course of his football career, Daniels decided to retire from the sport on December 1, 2023 out of medical necessity.
