Kirk Cousins Career

  • In the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected quarterback Kirk with the seventh overall pick in the fourth round. This placed him as the 102nd overall pick in the draft.
  • The choice came as a shock to many pundits because the Redskins had already picked Robert Griffin III, winner of the Heisman Trophy in 2011, with the second overall pick in order to make him their franchise quarterback.
  • The Redskins were able to acquire the Griffin III pick by trading four high-value draft picks to the St. Louis Rams over the course of three years.
  • On May 31, 2012, Cousins signed a contract with the Washington Redskins that was for four years.
  • Even though Cousins threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter of the Redskins’ game against the Chicago Bears in the second preseason game, the Redskins ended up losing the game by a score of 33–31.
  • On December 11, 2013, Shanahan deactivated Robert Griffin III for the remainder of the season in order to protect him for the following year. As a result, Cousins was appointed the starting quarterback for the remainder of the year, with Rex Grossman serving as the backup for Cousins. Cousins was given the job.
  • On March 18, 2020, Kirk Cousins extended his contract with the Minnesota Vikings by signing a new deal for $66 million over the next two years.
  • In the second week of the season, when the Indianapolis Colts were the opponent, quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 113 yards but also three interceptions while the team was on the road.
  • After the game was over, his overall quarterback rating was 15.9, which is the third-worst mark in Vikings team history.
  • Cousins started the 2021 NFL season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals and had 351 passing yards and two touchdowns in the loss. The game went into overtime.
  • In Week 11 of the NFL season, Cousins led the Washington Redskins to a 34–31 victory over the Green Bay Packers by completing 24 of his 35 pass attempts, passing for 341 yards, and scoring three touchdowns through the air.
  • On March 13, 2022, Kirk Cousins extended his contract with the Washington Redskins by one year and $35 million fully guaranteed, taking it through the 2023 season.
  • In the fourth quarter of the game against the Green Bay Packers on October 29, 2023, Cousins tore his Achilles tendon, which ended his season and prevented him from playing again
