Laura Kuenssberg Career

  • While serving as a home affairs correspondent for BBC North East and Cumbria in 2001, Kuenssberg was honored with the “Most Promising Newcomer” award presented by the regional chapter of the Royal Television Society.
  • Her promotion to the position of chief political correspondent at the BBC came in the year 2009. Reporting for BBC One bulletins, Daily Politics, and the BBC News channel were among Kuenssberg’s responsibilities.
  • The journalist David Aaronovitch came up with the word “Kuenssbergovision” in May of 2010 after observing that her appearances on BBC Television were so common during the time period between the general election in the United Kingdom in 2010 and the creation of the coalition government led by Cameron and Clegg.
  • It was reported on the 12th of November 2013 that she would be leaving ITV to return to the BBC as chief reporter and a presenter of Newsnight. In the latter job, she would replace Gavin Esler, who had previously held the position. In February of 2014, she became a member of the Newsnight crew.
  • It was reported on the 11th of December 2019 that she was accused of breaking electoral law when she stated that postal ballots painted a “grim” picture for Labour. This occurred while she was reporting on the 2019 general election in the United Kingdom.
  • Even though parties were not allowed to look at voting papers when they were being verified – but not counted – at opening sessions, Kuenssberg informed viewers on Wednesday that they did “get a hint” of how they were doing, and it was not looking good for Labour.
  • Kuenssberg also said that parties were not supposed to look at voting papers when they were being confirmed.
  • Kuenssberg made the announcement that she will be resigning from her position as political editor effective in the spring of 2022 so that she may assume “a senior presenting and reporting role” at the BBC on the 20th of December, 2021.
  • It was reported in March 2022 that Kuenssberg would succeed Andrew Marr as the anchor of the main Sunday morning political show on BBC One, beginning in September 2022. Kuenssberg’s full-time tenure in this post was to begin in September 2022.
