Layla Moran – Layla Michelle Moran (born September 12, 1982) is a British politician affiliated with the Liberal Democrats. Since 2020, she has been the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and International Development, and since 2017, she has been the Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon.

During the general election in 2015, she ran for the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency and finished in second place. She was selected for the seat once again at the general election in 2017, and she was elected to the House of Commons by garnering 26,256 votes, which is 43.7% of the total, and a majority of 816 votes. Her opponent in the election was a Conservative MP named Nicola Blackwood.

Layla Moran Family, Relationship and Afair

Moran was the older daughter of James Moran, a diplomat, and Randa Moran, a Christian Palestinian from Jerusalem. She was born in Hammersmith, London, on September 12, 1982 and is the only child of her parents.

After the Liberal Democrat Federal Conference in 2013, Moran and her partner at the time, Richard Davis, were questioned by the police for a short period of time after she smacked him after an argument that took place in their hotel room. Although there were no charges filed, the relationship ultimately came to an end.

Moran also revealed that she was in a committed relationship with Rosy Cobb, who had worked as a publicity officer for the Liberal Democrats in the past. During the most recent presidential race, Cobb was barred from participating in party activities after she was accused of creating a fraudulent email. Layla Moran Career

  • In the general election held in 2010, Moran was chosen to represent the Liberal Democrats as their candidate in the constituency of Battersea. He finished in third place. In the London Assembly elections of 2012, she was also a candidate, this time for the West Central constituency, where she finished in fourth place.
  • At the general election in 2015, Moran ran for the seat of Oxford West and Abingdon and finished in second place. She received 26,256 votes, which is 43.7% of the total, and won the seat with a majority of 816 over her opponent, Nicola Blackwood, a Conservative who had been a junior minister for health at the time of the election. Her victory came at the general election in 2017.
  • Moran made history by becoming the first person in the history of the United Kingdom’s Parliament to be of Palestinian heritage. She also made history by becoming the first female Liberal Democrat MP to come from an ethnic minority background.
  • Moran was given the role of spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in the House of Commons on issues pertaining to education, science, and young people in June of 2017.                                         
  • During that month, she used her first speech as a member of Parliament to advocate for schools to receive more equitable financing. Two years later, in July 2017, she spoke out against the early closure of all of the Sure Start children’s centers in Oxfordshire.
  • Moran made the announcement in May 2019 that she would not be running for the Liberal Democrats leadership race in 2019 due to the fact that she is a relatively new MP.
  • After Vince Cable revealed in September 2018 that he planned to stand down from the position of leader of the organization, she was widely thought to be the most likely candidate to succeed Cable in that role.
  • Moran has also been a major voice in the need for a comprehensive reform of the history curriculum taught at the GCSE level. She contends that in order to combat racism in society on a systemic level, kids need to be educated on Britain’s colonial history as well as the injustices that occurred during that time period.
  • Moran was one of three members of parliament (MPs) who were successful in taking legal action against the Department of Health and Social Care in 2021 about contracts that were issued during the COVID-19 epidemic.
