Luka Doncic, a top player for the Dallas Mavericks, had a night to remember on Friday, when he lit up State Farm Arena with 73 points, which was a career high. The Mavericks won the game 148-143 against the Atlanta Hawks, who were the hosts.
It surpassed the 70-point performance that Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid had on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs, making it the highest-scoring game in the National Basketball Association over the course of this season.
It also tied Wilt Chamberlain and David Thompson for the fourth-highest production in the history of the National Basketball Association.
In addition, Chamberlain, who holds the record for most points scored in an NBA game with 100, had a performance in which he scored 78 points, while Kobe Bryant concluded with 81 points on January 22, 2006.
On Friday night, the National Basketball Association (NBA) celebrated its 15th game with 70 points, and Doncic is the 10th player to reach the threshold.
At 2 minutes and 58 seconds left, Doncic scored 70 points thanks to a three-point play. In order to cap off his performance, he shot another three-point shot as Dallas was leading by a score of 140-136.
Despite the fact that Doncic, who has a career average of 33.6 points, stated that the performance was “probably at the top” of his career, he added that he was just concerned with winning the game.
“We’ve been struggling lately,” he added of the Mavericks, for whom they had suffered three consecutive defeats prior to Friday. “There was a mindset that was to win. We did a fantastic job.”
After starting the game with 18 points in the first quarter, Doncic went on to score 23 points in the second quarter.
He finished with a field goal percentage of 25 out of 33, including 8 out of 13 points from beyond the arc, and he made 15 out of 16 free throws.
It was a hot man. Trae Young, who led Atlanta with 30 points, declared that he was going to give it his all. We were attempting everything possible. We had the intention of capturing him.
When it came to Dallas, Josh Green scored 21 points, but Doncic was the one who carried the attack.
“I’ve never seen anything like that,” Green remarked. “I had no idea.”
Moreover, Doncic had ten rebounds and seven assists throughout his game. After Chamberlain (who accomplished this feat six times), Elgin Baylor, David Robinson, and Embiid, who accomplished it on Monday, he became the fifth NBA player to achieve the feat of scoring at least 70 points and grabbing at least ten rebounds in a single game.
He continued by saying, “I’ve said this before, we won’t be able to take him for granted.” Every night is a unique occasion.
In any situation, he is active. There are moments when we are a little bit harsh on him because of the wins and defeats, but you have to understand that what he does on the court is unique in comparison to what everybody else does.
One of Doncic’s earlier career highs was sixty points, which he scored on December 27, 2022, against the New York Knicks.
