Madison Keys Career

The Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline is where Keys got his start in the sport of tennis. When she was seven, she started going to classes on a regular basis, and when she was nine, she started competing in competitions. She relocated to Florida with her mother and younger sisters when she was eleven years old so that she could train at the Evert Tennis Academy, which had been established by John Evert and was also partly operated by his sister, Chris Evert, who is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

When John first saw her, he commented that he “thought she was very athletic, a raw talent physically.” It was clear that she needs some work done on her strokes.” When Keys was first starting out at the academy, her game was drastically different from how it is now that she is a professional. She said, “I didn’t like groundstrokes, I didn’t like long points that much, so I would just run into the net and try and volley.”

This is in contrast to how her game is now that she is a professional. Despite this, Keys’s instructors had a lot of faith in her ability to succeed. Chris commented that “at 12 years old, she’s pretty much an all-court player; she’s not one-dimensional, which is pretty rare in this day and age.”

Keys began her career as a professional pianist on the day she turned 14 in February of 2009. A few months later, she made her debut on the WTA Tour at the Ponte Vedra Beach Championships. Prior to that, she had only competed in one other professional tournament, where she was victorious in only one of her matches. She won her first match in straight sets against Alla Kudryavtseva, who is ranked No. 81 in the world.

She became the youngest player to win a match on a WTA tour level at the age of 14 years and 48 days, making her the seventh-youngest player in the history of women’s professional tennis and the youngest since Martina Hingis in 1994. In the following round of the competition, top seed Nadia Petrova eliminated Keys from contention. She was not allowed to compete in any additional WTA tournaments that year since the tour enforces an age restriction clause.

Despite this, Keys was able to have another shot at competing against the best pros by joining the Philadelphia Freedoms of the World TeamTennis league. This gave Keys the chance to test himself against the best players in the world. She won the match against Serena Williams in a set that went to five games, despite the fact that she was just 14 years old. Williams had recently won Wimbledon at the beginning of that month and held the No. 2 spot in the global rankings at the time.

She has a younger sister named Montana and two younger sisters named Hunter and Sydney, although none of them play tennis. Her older sister is named Sydney. Early on in life, Keys had a deep love for the sport of tennis.

When she was just four years old, she started watching Wimbledon on television, which is where her fascination in the sport began. Keys approached her parents with the request for a white tennis dress similar to the one that Venus Williams was sporting, and they expressed their willingness to fulfill her request if she began to play tennis. Her father claimed that once they made this deal, all Madison did was try to knock balls into the next yard, which he referred to as home runs.
