UFC: On strawweight debut, Molly McCann defeats Diana Belbita

At her first strawweight fight, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Molly McCann of the United Kingdom submitted Diana Belbita in the first round. Her performance was very impressive.

With only one second left in the round, McCann, who is 33 years old, successfully finished off the Romanian with an armbar.

McCann, who has stated that she considered retiring after suffering defeats in her two most recent fights, was able to get back to her previous level of performance.

The statement that McCann made was, “It feels amazing to be at strawweight.”

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), to myself, and to my supporters for not being at the appropriate weight and for my two most recent defeats. But I am able to forgive myself today.”

McCann had fought at the flyweight division throughout her entire UFC career, which had resulted in seven victories from a total of twelve bouts. However, initial defeats in the first round by Erin Blanchfield in November 2022 and Julija Stoliarenko seven months later forced her to question whether or not she would continue to compete in the sport.

McCann made the decision to fight at the strawweight division after receiving guidance from her coach, Paul Rimmer. She stated that she was “in the best shape of my life” prior to the bout with Belbita, who was 27 years old.

As she stepped out for the battle, McCann, who was a pre-fight favorite among bookies, exhibited a serene demeanor. This was in contrast to the ferocity that she had displayed in former clashes.

McCann was also joined by the song that her buddy Ryan Curtis, who was involved in a training mishap that was described as “life-changing” last month, chose to accompany her during the walkout.

McCann began the fight with a strong purpose, delivering a couple of devastating overhand rights. He then went on to control the early portions of the fight by landing blows and immediately moving out of Belbita’s range.

As the round progressed, McCann’s self-assurance increased as she continued to rotate through her arsenal, landing attacks such as a spinning back kick and her signature spinning back elbow.

McCann brought Belbita down, converted to full mount, and unleashed a series of elbows throughout the wrestling exchanges, which ultimately proved to be the decisive moment in the fight.

There were only a few seconds left in the round when McCann successfully locked in an armbar, so securing the victory.

She dropped to the ground as she embraced the moment, and it was a poetic finish for McCann, whose previous two defeats in the Ultimate Fighting Championship had both been by armbar for her.

It was also her second victory over Belbita, whom she had previously defeated in a fight in 2019 by way of a unanimous decision.

“Say less and enact more,” According to McCann, the aim was to become a world champion at 125 pounds, but it did not have the desired effect.

The aim is not altered when the plan fails; rather, the strategy is altered when the goal fails to be achieved. After my coach made a commitment to me that this would occur, I have listened to him.

Every day should be taken as it comes. I’m going to go be with my family and spend some time with them. I’ve been working out at my gym, and I’m going to have a beer and see you shortly. I’ll be right back.
