Remy Ma – Reminisce Kioni Mackie American rapper, whose birth name was Smith and who was born on May 30, 1980, is better known by her stage name, Remy Ma. She was brought to Big Pun’s attention, and it was via her work with Fat Joe’s group, Terror Squad, that she rose to notoriety.

Her first studio album, There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, was released the same year (2006) and was a moderately successful release, reaching its highest position on the Billboard 200 list at number 33.  Some of Ma’s most financially successful tracks encompass “Whuteva”, “Ante Up (Remix)”, “Lean Back”, “Conceited”, and “All the Way Up”.

Remy Ma Family, Relationship and Afair

Smith was raised in the Castle Hill Projects, despite having been born in The Bronx. At a young age, she was presented with the reality of her family’s drug addiction. At an early age, she was responsible for the upbringing of her younger brothers and sisters, and she used the outlet of writing poems to escape the challenges of her family life.

In February of 2016, Smith wed Shamele Mackie, who is also a rapper and is better known by his stage name Papoose. Mackie was found trying to smuggle a skeleton key into Smith’s prison in 2008, which led to him being barred from seeing Smith for a period of six months.

Remy Ma Career

  • In the beginning of Ma’s career as a singer, she was known by the stage name Remy Martin. She made her debut on the album Yeeeah Baby by Big Pun, where she was featured on the songs “Ms. Martin” and “You Was Wrong.”
  • Following Big Pun’s passing, rapper Fat Joe recruited Ma to his imprint label, which was affiliated with SRC and Universal. There, Ma joined the hip hop ensemble that Fat Joe fronted, known as Terror Squad. True Story was their second and final album, and it was released on July 27, 2004.
  • She made an appearance on it. Their single “Lean Back” earned Ma her first nomination for a Grammy Award after it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a total of three weeks beginning on August 21, 2004.                                                                                                                                     
  • Ma disclosed to Billboard on February 13, 2007, that she was working on both her upcoming second album, PunisHer, and a collaboration album with female rappers Shawnna and Jacki-O as part of the all-female rap supergroup 3Sum.
  • Remy was taken into custody in July of 2007 for the shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph inside a Manhattan nightclub. She was found guilty on accusations of assault, weapons possession, and attempted coercion; on May 13, 2008, she was given a sentence of eight years in jail for her crimes. She insisted that the shooting had been a mistake the entire time.
  • Ma made the announcement on July 7, 2015, that she and her husband Papoose would be appearing in the sixth season of the reality television show Love & Hip Hop: New York.
  • In 2016, Fat Joe announced that he and Ma would be collaborating on an album to be released the following year. Plata O Plomo is the name of the collaborative album that was formally unveiled on March 2, 2016, and it literally translates to “silver or lead” in Spanish.

  • Conceited is a boutique for women’s apparel that was founded by Ma on August 20, 2017, in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina.
  • Ma has been serving as a host on the chat show State of the Culture alongside Joe Budden since September 10, 2018.
  • During an appearance on the radio show The Breakfast Club in March 2020, Ma revealed that the album’s title had been altered to “Reminisce,” and that a release date was being determined.
