Rihanna – Career

In 2003, Rihanna and two of her classmates in her home nation of Barbados came up with the idea of forming a musical trio. The girl group auditioned for the American record producer Evan Rogers without having a name or any material to present to him.

Evan Rogers remarked that “the minute Rihanna walked into the room, it was like the other two girls didn’t exist.” In other words, she completely stole the show. Rihanna visited Rogers in his hotel room, where she gave renditions of “Emotion” by Destiny’s Child and “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Rogers was very impressed.

After being impressed by Rihanna, Rogers arranged a second meeting with the singer’s mother in attendance. He then extended an invitation to Rihanna to visit his hometown in the United States to record some demo tapes that might be forwarded to record labels.

During the same year, Rogers and Carl Sturken brought Rihanna on board with their production firm, which was called Syndicated Rhythm Productions. Her tape was sent to Def Jam Recordings, where Jay Brown, an A&R executive at the record label, was one of the first to hear the demo.

Jay Brown was one of the first to hear the demo. The rapper Jay-Z, who had only recently been named as president and CEO of Def Jam, listened to the demo tape that Brown had brought along. When Jay-Z initially listened to the music “Pon de Replay,” he had the impression that the song was too advanced for her to handle.

In spite of his reservations, he decided to give Rihanna the opportunity to try out for the record business. At the beginning of 2005, she went to New York City to audition for Def Jam. While there, Jay-Z introduced her to the music industry magnate Antonio “L.A.” Reid. She sang a cover of Whitney Houston’s “For the Love of You” at the audition, as well as the demo tracks “Pon de Replay” and “The Last Time.” After hearing her perform her upcoming single “Pon de Replay,” Jay-Z was completely convinced that he needed to sign her.

She was told by Jay-Z that she could not leave the building until the contract was signed since his boss, L.A. Reid, was so taken with her performance during the audition. It was left up to Jay-Z and his staff to seal the deal, which eventually led to Def Jam signing the artist to a record deal for six albums.

Because Jay-Z wanted to prevent her from signing with another label, he made her stay in his office until three in the morning so that his attorneys could prepare a contract to prevent her from doing so. She decided to move from Barbados to the United States in order to be with Rogers and his wife. She canceled all of her other scheduled meetings with record labels.

Reb’l Fleur, Rihanna’s debut fragrance, was introduced to the market in January of 2011. Rolling Stone claims that Reb’l Fleur was a commercial success and that it was anticipated that the brand will earn $80 million at retail by the end of 2011. In February of 2012, her introduced her second fragrance, which is called Rebelle. The filmmaker Anthony Mandler was the one who filmed the promotional campaign for both Rebelle and Reb’l Fleur, therefore he was the one who shot the advertising campaign for Rebelle.

Nude was Rihanna’s third fragrance release, and it came out in November of 2012. Rogue, Rihanna’s fourth fragrance for women, was released on September 14, 2013, and was immediately followed by a male counterpart, also named Rogue, which was released in 2014. Rogue Men was introduced in 2014.
