Ron DeSantis Career

  • In the Republican primary for Florida’s 6th congressional district in 2012, DeSantis prevailed over six other candidates, and in the general election, he prevailed over Heather Beaven, the Democratic nominee. His reelections in 2014 and 2016 were successful.
  • In May of 2015, DeSantis made the announcement that he would be running for election to the United States Senate in the state of Florida in 2016.
  • He ran for the seat that had been held by Marco Rubio, who had not initially filed to run for reelection owing to the fact that he was running for president in 2016. The fiscally conservative Club for Growth, which is led by the Koch brothers, backed DeSantis for governor.
  • DeSantis put his name to a pledge in 2013 called “No Climate Tax Pledge” that opposed raising taxes to combat global warming. He cast his ballot in favor of House Resolution 45, which, if passed, would have nullified the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2013.
  • On January 5, 2018, DeSantis submitted his paperwork to run for governor of Florida to succeed Republican Rick Scott, whose current term was coming to an end. A month prior, the President of the United States had stated that he would back DeSantis for governor if he ran for that office.
  • Included in Ron DeSantis’s campaign for governor was support for legislation that would make it possible for persons who have licences to carry a concealed weapon to openly carry firearms. In September of 2021, DeSantis made the announcement that he will seek reelection to his position.
  • On November 7th, he turned in all of the required documentation to make his entry into the event official. In the general election, he ran against the Democratic contender Charlie Crist, who is currently a congressman in the United States Congress and a former governor of Florida.
  • It was the greatest margin of victory in a Florida governor election since 1982 when DeSantis won the election with 59.4 percent of the vote to Crist’s 40 percent. The election took place on November 8. Shortly after it became clear that DeSantis would prevail in the election, Crist announced his concession.
  • Rather to the more typical “four more years,” fans at DeSantis’ victory rally chanted “two more years” to signal their support for DeSantis running for president in 2024. This was done in instead of the more common “four more years.”
  • On January 8, 2019, DeSantis was sworn in as Governor of Florida.[140] He has, for the most part, administered conservative policies. Three days after entering office, on January 11, he issued a posthumous pardon to the Groveland Four, a group of African-American males who were wrongfully convicted of rape in 1949.
  • During his campaign for governor in 2018, Ron DeSantis made a commitment to bring Florida’s corporate income tax rate down to 5 percent or lower.
  • During his time in office, the state of Florida’s tax rate on corporate revenue dropped as low as 3.5 percent in 2021, but by the following year, it had climbed to 5.5 percent. During his tenure as governor, DeSantis has been successful in preserving Florida’s reputation for having low overall tax rates.
  • Because of the considerable rise in the cost of fuel, DeSantis made the announcement on November 22, 2021, that he would temporarily eliminate Florida’s gasoline tax beginning in the following legislative session, which was scheduled to begin in 2022. In the year 2023, Florida’s state budget saw a record-breaking surplus.
