Rowan Atkinson Career

1979 marked the debut of The Atkinson People, a comedic program that was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and starring Rowan Atkinson. It was composed of a series of mock interviews with fictitious historical figures, each of whom was portrayed by Atkinson in the show. Atkinson and Richard Curtis were responsible for the writing of the series, and Griff Rhys Jones was the producer.

After graduating from university, Atkinson filmed a one-off pilot episode of Canned Laughter in 1979 for London Weekend Television. Since then, he has appeared on televised skits with various performers such as Elton John, John Cleese, and Kate Bush, the latter with whom he performed the humorous song “Do Bears, for the British charity event Comic Relief in 1986.

He first gained further national attention when he performed on the third The Secret Policeman’s Ball in June 1979, which was broadcast on the BBC. There have been instances of people doing solo skits on television, without the use of dialogue, in which they played an unseen drum kit and an invisible piano.

It was in October 1979 when Atkinson made his debut on the BBC program Not the Nine O’Clock News, which was produced by his good buddy John Lloyd. As well as appearing on the show alongside Pamela Stephenson, Griff Rhys Jones, and Mel Smith, he was also a primary contributor to the sketches that were performed.

ITV made the announcement that they would be producing a new animated series starring Mr. Bean in January of 2014, and Rowan Atkinson would reprise his role as the title character. Later in 2014, it was planned to be made available on the internet as a web series, and shortly after that, it was going to be broadcast on television.
