Ryan Garcia Career

  • On June 9, 2016, Garcia made his professional debut at the age of seventeen. When he competed against Edgar Meza in his first professional fight, which took place in Tijuana, he won the contest by technical knockout.

  • The following month, in November 2016, Garcia inked a contract with Golden Boy Promotions. The announcement that Garcia will make his debut was made by Oscar De La Hoya on December 17, 2016, during the Smith-Hopkins light-heavyweight main event that was featured at The Forum. The victory for Garcia came in the form of a knockout in the second round.

  • Between the months of October 2018 and February 2022, he received training from Eddy Reynoso, who is also employed by Canelo Alvarez and Oscar Valdez at their facility in San Diego, California.

  • Garcia was scheduled to compete against Francisco Fonseca on February 14, 2020, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, according to an announcement made by Golden Boy on January 2, 2020. Fonseca was knocked out by Garcia’s lead left hook in the first round of the fight. Garcia had landed seven punches during the fight.

  • Garcia was scheduled to compete against Luke Campbell, who had won the Olympic gold medal, for the interim WBC lightweight title on October 8. The fight was scheduled to take place at Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California.

  • Because Campbell became infected with Covid-19, the combat was originally slated to take place on December 5, 2020; however, it was moved to January 2, 2021 from its original date. Additionally, the location of the event was altered to that of the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

  • On October 8, 2021, it was reported that Garcia would be battling Joseph Diaz in Los Angeles on November 27 for his WBC interim lightweight title. This announcement came after Díaz’s victory against Fortuna, which was the same title Garcia had held after defeating Luke Campbell.

  • However, Garcia’s title was eventually stripped earlier in 2021. Mike Coppinger, a reporter for ESPN, disclosed on October 15, 2021 that García had sustained a hand injury, resulting in the postponement of the fight scheduled to take place with Diaz.

  • At the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, on July 16, 2022, Garcia competed against Javier Fortuna in a competition that was classified as super lightweight.

  • In rounds four, five, and six, Garcia scored knockdowns, which led to the referee ending the fight after the third knockdown. Garcia was the dominant fighter throughout the fight. Prior to the fight being stopped, all of the judges had scored the bout exactly the same way, giving Garcia every round with a score of 50–43.

  • On February 24, 2023, it was reported that Garcia would compete against Gervonta Davis in a catchweight match at 136 pounds. The fight was scheduled to take place on April 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Showtime and DAZN collaborated to produce a pay-per-view event that featured the long-awaited fight.

  • Davis delivered a body punch to Garcia in the second round, and then again in the seventh round, ultimately causing Garcia to lose his fight. This resulted in Gervonta Davis being declared the winner via knockout because Garcia was unable to rise on the count of ten that the referee was using.

  • After the battle, Garcia was chastised by a number of boxing figures for his failure to rise in the seventh round of the bout.

  • The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas was the venue where Garcia competed against Oscar Duarte. It was on December 2nd, 2023 that the combat took place.

  • Due to Garcia’s successful landing of a combination late in the eighth round, Duarte was unable to overcome the referee’s count, which resulted in Garcia winning the fight by knockout during the eighth round.
