Star of ‘Peyton Place’ and ‘Love Story,’ Ryan O’Neal dies at 82

On Friday, Ryan O’Neal, an actor who was nominated for an Academy Award and who had roles in the soap opera Peyton Place as well as the films Paper Moon and What’s Up, Doc? from the 1970s, passed away. He was 82 years old.

He was confirmed to have passed away by his son in a message that he made on social media.

“My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would love us,” it was written by Patrick O’Neal on Instagram. All throughout my life, my father, Ryan O’Neal, has been my hero. I had a lot of respect for him, and he was always more impressive than life.

His death was not listed as the reason of death.

After securing his breakthrough role as Rodney Harrington in the ABC nighttime soap opera Peyton Place in 1964, Ryan O’Neal’s star began to rise the following year.

The role that O’Neal played in the 1970 box office blockbuster Love Story, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, was particularly responsible for his reputation as a heartthrob.

Together with his real-life daughter Tatum O’Neal, O’Neal played a con artist during the Great Depression in the film Paper Moon, which was released in 1973.

Tatum O’Neal was awarded the Academy Award for best supporting actress when she was only ten years old. Other important roles that he has played in films include those in Barry Lyndon, A Bridge Too Far, and The Driver.

According to the biographical page on his website, he was born into the industry as the son of screenwriter Charles “Blackie” O’Neal and actress Patricia O’Callaghan. He was born into the business.

After completing his training to become a professional boxer, the native of Los Angeles decided to pursue a career in acting. Between the years 1956 and 1957, he was a competitor in two Golden Gloves titles.

Through his athleticism, he was able to secure a stuntman position on the television series Tales of the Vikings, which was his first job in front of the camera.

“I like this business now,” O’Neal said to The New York Times in the year 1978. A pleasant aspect of going to work is the opportunity to work on something that has the potential to last for a very long time. However, it raises a few eyebrows.

Joanna Moore, an actress, became O’Neal’s first wife when they tied the knot in the early 1960s. In addition, they had a son named Griffin. Later on, he entered into a marriage with the actress Leigh Taylor-Young, with whom he had a son named Patrick.

O’Neal also had a son named Redmond, who he had with his late girlfriend, the actor Farrah Fawcett, who passed away later in life.

As the number of acting assignments he had decreased, his personal life became more and more public. The actor, who is also well-known in Hollywood for his explosive temper, substance misuse, and legal issues, had a difficult time maintaining relationships with three of his children at various points in his life.

According to the allegations, he assaulted his son Griffin in the year 2007, and a year later, he was arrested together with his son Redmond on a narcotics charge. He was also estranged from Tatum for a considerable amount of time before they reconciled in the year 2020.

“He meant the world to me,” Tatum said in a statement that she released to People magazine after the passing of her father from cancer.

“He loved me very deeply, and I am certain that he loved me as well. I will never forget him, and I consider myself quite fortunate that we parted ways on such amicable terms.
