Sam Quek – Samantha Ann Quek is a well-known English television personality and a former field hockey player. She was born on October 18, 1988 in England. She was a member of both the England and Great Britain teams, where she played as a defender and wore the number 13 jersey, and she helped the British side win the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Quek has hosted a number of sports programs on television, including American football for the BBC, rugby union for Channel 5, field hockey for BT Sport, football for Channel 4 and LFC TV, and other football-related programs. She was a contestant on series such as “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” in 2016 and “Celebrity Masterchef” in 2020, where she made it to the top three of the competition.

Quek was born on October 18, 1988 in Mill Road Hospital in Liverpool to an English mother, Marilyn Quek (née Higgins), and a Singaporean Chinese father, Albert Quek. Quek’s mother was English, while his father was Singaporean Chinese. Her brother and she are identical twins.

Sam Quek Career

  • Throughout his career, Quek was a defender who went on to represent England as well as Great Britain while donning the number 13 jersey for both teams. In 2005, Quek was a member of the England squad that triumphed at the Girl’s (Under-18s) Four Nations Invitational Tournament.
  • The tournament was won by England after defeating Holland on penalties in the championship match, which had ended in a 1–1 draw. At the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, she competed as a member of the Great Britain Team and brought home the gold.
  • Additionally, she was a member of the team that competed in the Women’s EuroHockey Junior Championship in 2006 and finished in second place behind Germany.                                                 
  • During the 2014 Champions Trophy competition that took place in Mendoza, Argentina, Quek led the England team as captain in the absence of Kate Richardson-Walsh. Even though Quek was unaware at the time, she broke two ribs on her right side during their first game of the tournament, she nevertheless participated in every game of the tournament.
  • It was revealed in September 2016 that Quek, along with several of her fellow Team GB members, had been granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for various medical prescriptions after a group of Russian hackers calling themselves “Fancy Bears” got into the WADA database.
  • During the month of July 2021, it was announced that Quek will be joining the cast of the long-running game program A Question of Sport as a team captain.
  • Alongside Dan Walker, Quek served as a co-anchor for the BBC’s Olympic Breakfast morning program throughout the months of July and August 2021. The two of them covered the Tokyo Olympic Games.
  • Following Gethin Jones’ departure from BBC One in January 2022, Quek took over as host of the show Morning Live.
  • It was announced in February 2023 that Quek will be co-hosting the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool alongside Timur Miroshnychenko, who had previously served in this capacity for the 2017 competition.
  • During the month of October 2023, Quek participated in Richard Osman’s House of Games as a participant.
