Watt was honored with one of the first-team All-Big Ten honors on November 29, 2016.

Professional Career

  • Watt, who is considered to be one of the best edge rushers in the draft, was invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine and went through all of the workouts that were part of the combine. Watt finished in second place in the vertical leap and the three-cone drill among linebackers.
  • He also tied for first place in the broad jump with Jabrill Peppers and tied for first place in the short shuttle. In addition to Dare Ogunbowale, Vince Biegel, Corey Clement, and Sojourn Shelton, he was one of the six teammates who showed up to Wisconsin’s pro day.
  • The general manager of the Green Bay Packers, Ted Thompson, and the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin, were among the sixty-five team representatives and scouts who were present for Watt’s pro day.
  • Additionally, the inside linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Joey Porter, as well as the outside linebackers coach for the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets, Kevin Greene, led Watt’s positional drills.
  • When the 2017 NFL Draft was being conducted, the Pittsburgh Steelers used the thirty-first overall pick to choose Watt in the first round. In the fourth round of the draft, Watt was taken as a linebacker, making him the second outside linebacker.
  • Additionally, he was the fourth linebacker that the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected in the first round since the year 2013.
  • Watt made his first start in the National Football League and made his professional regular season debut in the Steelers’ season-opening game against the Cleveland Browns on September 10, 2017. In that game, Watt had seven combined tackles, two sacks, and intercepted a pass from quarterback DeShone Kizer.
  • The Steelers went on to win the game by a score of 21–18. The Pittsburgh Steelers had not seen a rookie linebacker since Aaron Jones in 1988, and he became the first rookie to start at that position.
  • It was expected that Watt would start at left outside linebacker when he arrived at training camp. In addition to interior linebackers Vince Williams and Jon Bostic, head coach Mike Tomlin selected Watt and Bud Dupree, who was now on the right side, as the starting outside linebackers for the first game of the season.
  • Derek Watt, Watt’s older brother, was signed by the Steelers on March 17, 2020, bringing the two siblings together on the same team responsibilities. In the year 2020, on April 28th, the Steelers made use of the fifth-year option that was included in Watt’s contract.

  • The 21-day practice window for Watt’s return was created by the Steelers on October 26 before the season began. The 11th of November, 2022 was the day that he was brought back from injured reserve.
  • At the end of the 2022 season, he finished with 39 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and 5.5 sacks, which was a career low considering he only played in 10 games.
  • Although this being the case, Watt was selected for the Pro Bowl for the sixth year in a row. Watt finished the season ranked 27th on the list of the Top 100 Players in the NFL for the year 2023.
  • During the second week of the season, Watt surpassed Harrison’s record for the most sacks in a franchise by sacking Deshaun Watson, bringing his career total to 81.5. Later on, Watt recovered a Watson fumble that was caused by his teammate Alex Highsmith.
  • He then returned the ball 16 yards for the touchdown that ultimately decided the game, which was a 26–22 victory over the Browns. It was determined that Watt was the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for the month of September due to his outstanding performance in the first three games of the season.
  • The Steelers honored Watt as the Most Valuable Player of the Team for the fourth time on January 2, 2024. Both Antonio Brown and he are currently tied for first place in that category.
