Mark Kerr, a mixed martial arts fighter, is the latest dramatic role that Dwayne Johnson is taking on in his acting career.

On Wednesday, A24 made the announcement that the wrestler-turned-actor, who is 51 years old, will play the role of the mixed martial arts (MMA) and UFC champion in the upcoming film The Smashing Machine, which will be directed by Benny Safdie.

“Both Dwayne and Benny are exceptional individuals, and the fact that they have a common vision for Mark’s motivational story is a source of excitement. Noah Sacco, who works for A24, sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety in which he said, “We are deeply honored to have their trust as collaborators in bringing this incredibly special project to life.”

Prior to his current position, Safdie, who is 37 years old, collaborated with his brother Josh Safdie as a co-director on the films Uncut Gems, which starred Adam Sandler, and Good Time, which starred Robert Pattinson. As a writer and director, Safdie will be making his debut with The Smashing Machine, which will be his first solo production. The people responsible for producing the movie are Johnson, Safdie, Dany Garcia, Eli Bush, and David Koplan.

It is planned that the film will investigate the life of Kerr, who is at the pinnacle of his profession in the year 2000, as he navigates the challenges of love, friendship, addiction, and career successes.

Because of his unrestrained fighting style, Kerr, who is now 54 years old, is known by the nickname “The Smashing Machine.” More than twenty mixed martial arts titles were won by him, and he was the champion of the UFC Heavyweight competition twice. Additionally, he was the winner of the World Vale Tudo Championship competition.

Kerr was the subject of the documentary that was broadcast on HBO in 2002 and was named The Smashing Machine. It tracked the career of the mixed martial arts fighter, charting his development in the MMA sphere, and it delves into Kerr’s struggle with addiction, which ultimately resulted in an overdose.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Johnson had retired from the WWE in 2004, but he recently made a comeback and competed against John Cena, a previous opponent of his to begin with.

When the two wrestling champions faced off against one other during WWE SmackDown! in September at Ball Arena in Denver, they astonished the audience by doing so. It was captured on camera that John Cena was standing behind Johnson, silently staring straight ahead with his hands behind his back. This occurred during Johnson’s return.

The two guys confronted each other with a stoic expression on their faces and showed no sign of emotion. However, they were unable to maintain their stoic position while both of them broke into smiles.

“I see you trying to smile!” Johnson said all of this while pointing toward Cena, who indicated his agreement by nodding his head. The star of Peacemaker then extended his hand to Johnson and greeted him with the words, “Welcome home.” Johnson shook his hand.
