Tyrese Haliburton – Biography

Tyrese John Haliburton is a professional basketball player from the United States who currently plays for the Indiana Pacers. He was born on February 29, 2000. He sits at the point guard position and has a height of 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters) and a weight of 185 pounds (84 kilograms). The Sacramento Kings selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.

He was a member of the Iowa State Cyclones basketball team throughout his time away from college. When Domantas Sabonis was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2022, the Pacers included Haliburton as part of the deal package that they received. As an East reserve, he was selected to participate in his first All-Star Game in the year 2023.

Tyrese Haliburton College Career

  • In his first game for Iowa State, which took place on November 6, 2018, Haliburton made his college debut. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a victory over Alabama State by a score of 79–53.
  • On November 26, he led his team to an 82–55 victory over Omaha, scoring a season-high 16 points in winning the game. On December 9, Haliburton led Southern to a 101–65 victory by recording 15 points, 17 assists, and one turnover. He also helped Southern win the game.
  • It was Eric Heft in 1974 who had previously held the record for the most assists by an Iowa State player in a single game, but his 17 assists broke that record.             
  • On November 11, 2019, during his sophomore season, Haliburton was honored with the title of Big 12 Player of the Week. This honor was bestowed upon him after he was able to average 13.5 points and 13.0 assists in victories over Mississippi Valley State and Oregon State.
  • On November 27, he hit a season-high 25 points, along with nine rebounds and five assists, in a game against Michigan in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The game ended in a loss for Michigan by a score of 83–76.
  • In an overtime defeat versus TCU on January 4, 2020, Haliburton got a triple-double by scoring 22 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. This was the first time that an Iowa State player had accomplished this feat since Monté Morris in 2016.

NBA Career

  • In the first round of the 2020 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Haliburton with the 12th choice. This was the result of the Kings’ selection. Haliburton was officially signed by the Kings on November 27, 2020, according to the Kings’ official announcement.
  • With 12 points, four assists, two rebounds, and a block, Haliburton made his debut in the National Basketball Association (NBA) on December 23, 2020. He came off the bench in a victory over the Denver Nuggets by a score of 124–122 in overtime.
  • On May 2, 2021, Haliburton was playing against the Dallas Mavericks when he sustained an injury to his left knee.                                                                             
  • It was stated that Haliburton will miss the final seven games of the 2020–21 season for the Kings as a precautionary measure, despite the fact that an MRI investigation later found that there was no damage to the ligaments.
  • On February 8, 2022, the Pacers acquired Domantas Sabonis, Justin Holiday, Jeremy Lamb, and a second-round selection in 2023 in exchange for Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Tristan Thompson. The transaction was completed so that the Pacers could acquire these players.
  • As part of his first game with the Pacers, which took place on February 11 and was a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of 120–113, Haliburton recorded 23 points, in addition to six assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
  • Alongside his teammate Chris Duarte, Haliburton took part in the North American Basketball Association’s 2022 Rising Stars Challenge. The champions of the 2022 Clorox Clutch Challenge were Desmond Bane and Haliburton.
  • This competition was held during the 75th season of the NBA and took place during the 2022 basketball All Star Weekend. In the first game against his previous team, which took place on March 23, Haliburton produced 13 points, 15 assists, and 3 steals in a game that the Sacramento Kings won by a single point after losing by one point.
  • On July 1, 2023, Haliburton reached an agreement with the Pacers to extend his full deal, which may be valued up to $260 million over the course of five years.
  • On the same day, it was revealed that Haliburton would be a member of the United States Men’s National Team that would compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in twentieth-century.
  • When the Chicago Bulls were defeated by the Chicago Bulls by a score of 120–104 on December 28, Haliburton recorded a career-high 20 assists, 20 points, and zero turnovers in the game.
  • As of 2016, he joined Chris Paul as the only player in NBA history to achieve the feat of scoring 20 points or more and dishing out 20 or more assists without committing a turnover.
  • On December 30, Haliburton led the New York Knicks to a victory by scoring 22 points and dishing out a career-high 23 assists in a game that they won 140–126.
