Joel Embiid – Joel Hans Embiid is a Cameroonian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association. In addition to his Cameroonian, French, and American citizenships, Embiid was born on March 16, 1994.

After playing college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks for one year, he was selected third overall by the 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. This followed his freshman season with the Jayhawks. Embiid, who stands at 7 feet tall, has been named to the NBA All-Star Game six times, has been selected to the All-NBA Team five times, and has been selected to the All-Defensive Team three times. In 2023, he was honored with the Most Valuable Player award from the NBA.

Joel Embiid Family, Relationship and Afair

Embiid was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, to his parents, Thomas Embiid , a military officer, and Christine Embiid, his father’s wife. He started playing basketball at the age of 15, basing his game after NBA Hall of Fame center Hakeem Olajuwon, who he had played volleyball and soccer with during his childhood. He had originally intended to play professional volleyball in Europe. However, he changed his mind.

Joel Embiid College Career

  • Embiid made his decision to enter the 2014 NBA draft on April 9, 2014, which meant that he would forego his remaining three years of NCAA eligibility.
  • In order to repair a broken navicular bone in his right foot, he underwent surgery on June 20, 2014, and as a result, he was unable to participate in any activities for a period of four to six months. After waiting for six days, the Philadelphia 76ers made their selection with the third overall choice in the draft.
  • The Philadelphia 76ers were the team that Embiid signed his rookie scale deal with on August 26, 2014. Due to the broken navicular bone in his foot, it was eventually determined that it was highly improbable that he would play at all during the 2014–15 season.

  • Embiid announced on April 9 that he would be entering the 2014 NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of eligibility to play collegiate basketball.
  • After undergoing surgery on the broken navicular bone in his right foot on the 20th of June 2014, he was ruled out of competition for a period of between four and six months.
  • Embiid signed a rookie scale contract with the 76ers on August 26, 2014, marking the beginning of his professional career. Due to the broken navicular bone in his foot, it was eventually determined that he would most likely not participate in any games during the 2014–2015 season.
  • After sitting out the entirety of the 2014–15 season, on June 13, 2015, it was revealed that Embiid had experienced a setback in his recovery after a CT scan revealed less healing than was anticipated. This news came little over a year after he had missed the entire season.                         
  • Embiid got the start at center for the 76ers in their first preseason game on October 4, 2016, which was a matchup against the Boston Celtics.
  • In a game against the New York Knicks that took place on January 11, 2017, Embiid won 98–97 and set a new career best by grabbing 14 rebounds.
  • It was announced on the 23rd of January that he had been given the title of Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the games that were played from Monday, January 16 through Sunday, January 22.
  • After getting into it with Karl-Anthony Towns during a game that Embiid’s team was playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 31, 2019, Embiid was handed a suspension for two games without pay.
  • On the 20th of February, 2020, Embiid led the Philadelphia 76ers to a victory over the Brooklyn Nets by scoring a season-high 39 points and pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds. The game went into overtime.
  • Embiid extended his contract with the 76ers on August 17, 2021, signing a deal for $196 million over four years. As a result of a positive test for COVID-19, Embiid was suspended for nine games.
  • In a game against the Orlando Magic that took place on January 19, 2022, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Magic by a score of 123–110. Embiid finished the game with 50 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks on 17-of-23 shooting from the field.
  • France recognized Embiid as “a foreigner whose naturalization is of exceptional interest” and awarded him citizenship in July 2022. Later on in the month of September, he also became a citizen of the United States.
  • On November 6, 2023, Embiid led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 146–128 victory over the Washington Wizards by scoring 48 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists while shooting 17-25 from the field.

  • As a result of his 29 points and 10-10 shooting in the third quarter, he joined the ranks of LeBron James (10-10, 4/1/2008) and Klay Thompson (13-13, 1/23/2015) as the only players since the 1997–98 season to shoot 10 for 10 or better in a quarter.

  • At the same time, Embiid recorded his sixth game with 45 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain as the player with the most in Sixers history.
