Kyrie Irving College Career

  • In a television show that was carried on ESPNU on October 22, 2009, Irving made his commitment to Duke. Mike Krzyzewski was the head coach of the Blue Devils for the 2010–2011 basketball season, and Irving was a member of the team during that time.
  • As of the first eight games of the season, he had a scoring average of 17.4 points per game, a shooting percentage of 53.2%, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.
  • When Irving suffered an injury to his right big toe during the ninth game of the season, he was a strong contender for the NCAA Freshman of the Year award. However, he ultimately did not win the award.
  • It was on March 17, the day before Duke’s game against Hampton in the first round of the NCAA tournament, that he made his return for the first game they had played since his injury.
  • In the NCAA Tournament, Duke made it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen, but were ultimately defeated by Arizona. The game that turned out to be Irving’s final game for Duke was one in which he scored 28 points.

Professional Career

  • Irving made the announcement that he would forego his remaining three seasons of eligibility and instead join the 2011 NBA draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the first overall choice in the draft.
  • Irving was selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge in 2012, where he was a member of Team Chuck. During the game, Irving scored 34 points and made eight of eight three-point shots, earning him the title of Most Valuable Player.
  • According to reports, Irving broke his right hand on July 14, 2012, as he was training with the Cavaliers in the NBA Summer League. The incident occurred after he reportedly slammed his hand against a padded wall after committing a turnover.
  • Irving achieved his first career triple-double on February 28, 2014, when he defeated the Utah Jazz by a score of 99–79. He did this by scoring 21 points, dishing out 12 assists, and grabbing 10 rebounds. Additionally, this was the first triple-double that the Cavaliers had achieved since March 16, 2010.
  • In a victory over the San Antonio Spurs by a score of 128–125 on March 12, 2015, Kyrie Irving scored a career-high 57 points, including a three-point jumper that beat the buzzer to send the Cavaliers into overtime.
  • The New York Knicks were defeated by the Boston Celtics by a score of 117–88 on October 25, 2016, after Irving had received his first championship ring prior to the opening game of the season. Irving had a game-high 29 points in the victory.
  • Three days later, he led the Cavaliers to a victory over the Toronto Raptors by scoring 26 points and making a three-point shot with 44.3 seconds left to play. This allowed the Cavaliers to escape with a score of 94–91.
  • Under the terms of free agency, Irving signed a contract with the Brooklyn Nets on July 7, 2019. During his first game with the Nets, which took place on October 23, 2019, Irving became the first player in the history of the National Basketball Association to score 50 points or more in a team debut.
  • He did it by scoring 50 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in a loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves that went into overtime.
  • The general manager of the Nets, Sean Marks, made the announcement on October 12, 2021, that unless Irving is vaccinated, he would not be allowed to play or train with the team. This is because the New York City COVID-19 vaccine mandate requires individuals to be vaccinated against the virus.
  • During a victory over the Utah Jazz on January 20, 2023, Irving recorded a season-high 48 points, including a season-high eight three-pointers. In addition, he grabbed 11 rebounds, six assists, and four steals, which contributed to the team’s victory.

In exchange, the Mavericks received Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected first-round selection in 2029, and second-round picks respectively in 2027 and 2029.
  • In his first game with the Mavericks, which took place on February 8, Irving scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, and served four assists in a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers by a score of 110–104.
  • On March 2, Irving led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 133–126 victory by scoring 40 points on 15 of 22 field goal attempts, including six of eight from beyond the arc. The game was won by the Philadelphia 76ers.
